I have a friend that hated college so much that she decieded to tell her son not to go to college but to focus on a trade school. I did not think that was a smarty thing to do. I think a child should be make his or her own decision about secondary education. College is not for everyone.

The Way We Were

I watched the way we were for the first time yesterday (Before we got the news about Bin Laden) and I admit it was an excellent movie. The reason I brought this movie up was because no matter how much they wanted to be together their values came first. She was all about the politics and the world we live in and he was not interested in the sadness of the world. Many times we feel so passionate about a view they no one can come in between it. Not even his child made him stay to work it out with Katie and in the end it was the best decision they both made.

What is wrong with the people today?

I just to vent for a minute. Many time black people constantly talk about how the "man" is keeping them down and that EVERYBODY is a racist. Well coming from a Black female I would have to say that's a bunch of crap. This guy over at Mathew Henson stated "You know sista, the white folks want us to be controlled so they put us in these houses/projects to watch our every move". I had to let him know what time it was. I was not born rich but my parents wanted to live a certain way. We never lived in the projects because my mother thought that was "lazy livin". We always had a nice home and a nice car and there may have been times when the bills may have overwhelmed them but we never knew it. Today I am the same way as my parents. I told that old fart that those people have a choice. The system is not designed to be a generational thing. It is put in place to help you move ahead in life. For instance, in my opinion if you decide to go to school then you can ask the state to help you with food and shelter until you graduate. Same thing for trade school but to feel that you are "made" to live in public housing really makes me mad. I come from Pasadena CA where a shack can run you 250k and living in AZ was a nice change. This state is very affordable and believe it or not it does help those in need, minority or otherwise. I cant stand for people to think that they are owed something. How can you complain when the stuff your getting is free?

Speaking with the residents

When I drove to the Luke Krohn projects I had my daughter with me. She didn't say anything at first but after I interviewed a young resident about 25 years old with 6 children, my daughter asked me if people really lived in small places like this with a lot of children. That made me sad and happy at the same time. Happy because I have been blessed to afford a beautiful home and sad because I have sheltered her from the truth of this world. The lady I interviewed spoke about living in this project or another as if she had no options. She was very comfortable with her place in life and seen nothing wrong with it. She obviously loved her children and was thinking she may have one on the way, but she was calm in the fact that she was placed on earth to have babies and it will be her job to make sure her children make it out of there with more sense than she seemed to have.

I didn't know what to say or even think at that point.

Reading over the material

I have asked if I could really get caught up on all the written documentations that surround Hope IV and the money donated to this project by HUD. Indicators for Social and Economic Conditions is something that I will investigate.

Visiting the Sites

On Friday Feb 18th (my sons bday no less) we went on a field trip of the Hope IV sites. One site was completed the other was in the process of being completed and the third site has not had the ground broken yet. The first site, Matthew Henson, was an apartment complex that was a mixture of low income to medium income occupants. We did not have a chance to see the inside of the apartment but it did have curb appeal. It is located on the corner of 7th ave and Buckeye but I knew what was there prior to these luxury style homes. This was a haven for drug dealers and thieves. Many residents were forced to live among those elements as their low income locations were selected for them. I guess the question for me is, Who would still want to live in an area with such a tainted past?
